Yiannis Katsikas serves up a win at the Caterer Awards 2018

Yiannis Katsikas, Shimmers on the Beach, Jumeirah Mina A'Salam took home the award for Head Chef of the Year for a Hotel-Managed Outlet at the Caterer Middle East Awards 2018.

Katsikas is both head chef of Shimmers while also taking care of the food requirements of Madinat Jumeirah’s beach operations.

This nomination entry said that overall revenue at the restaurant has increased more than 35% year on year, while food costs have gone down.

"It's very difficult to serve a high volume of international guests that come from all over the world and being an ambassador for Greek cuisine is challenging as it's not that well known in Dubai. So we're trying to spread the word and the Mediterranean taste," he said. 

"Every single day was a challenging at the restaurant so this is really for my team," he added.

Horeca Trade beverage manager Hala Jaber presented the award.

Highly commended in this category was chef Cesar Bartolini from Bread Street Kitchen & Bar at Atlantis The Palm.
