Caterer to host first red meat roadshow in KSA
Caterer Middle East is hosting two roadshows in KSA this May to raise awareness of Australian red meat to the Saudi Arabia Market.
Featuring Meat Livestock Australia, the Australian Red Meat Roadshows will address a number of areas including how Australian meat providers work with MLA to guarantee quality and safety of its red meat for export.
“KSA has been a long term importer of Australian red meat although it has only been in recent years where we have seen a much greater uptake of more premium end products such as the wagyu beef and chilled vacuum sealed lamb,” said Jamie Ferguson, regional manager, MENA, MLA.
“It is important for the Australian red meat industry to showcase the beef and lamb production process, from paddock to plate and to highlight Australia’s halal integrity as well as demonstrating the consistent quality attributes of the Australian product range.
The first of the two roadshows will take place on 5 May 2013 at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Jeddah, followed by the second which will take place on 7 May 2013 at the Novotel Hotel in Riyadh.
Several issues will be discussed including the Australian Government’s role in red meat production and the Australian halal slaughter process by Dr Tony Wigg, Consul - Agriculture - Middle East, Australian Government Department of Agriculture Forestry’s and Fisheries (DAFF).
The issue of managing the entire cold chain and understanding importation trends across the region will also be addressed by Ian Jenson, manager - Market Access Science and Technology, MLA.
“Relationships between KSA and Australia have really strengthened in recent years, with two-way trade growing by $2.15billion in 2012 according to a report published by Arab News,” said Caterer Middle East editor, Hannah Abdulla.
“The Red Meat Roadshow featuring MLA is going to be a really important event for the country, demonstrating how Australia can help add value to the Kingdom’s F&B industry through its quality meat supply,” she added.
In addition to the presentations, there will be a special butchery master class where MLA’s chef Tarek Ibrahim will demonstrate how to get the best beef and lamb cuts while at the same time minimising waste.
