Bayara marks 25 Years in the UAE

The brand is eyeing further regional expansion and is set to launch health-focused products

Bayara, the company specialising in dried fruits, nuts, spices and herbs is marking 25 years of operation in the UAE.

Bayara was founded in Jebel Ali in 1992. A quarter of a century later, the company trades more than 15,000 tonnes of spices and nuts, employs almost 1000 people and will reach USD 120 million of turnover. Bayara has recorded double-digit year-on-year growth despite prevailing difficult market conditions and continues to expand through the MENA region, opening a factory in Egypt and, more recently in Riyadh, KSA. 

Sustainability and social responsibility are key focus points for Bayara as the company aims to efficiently handle waste and recycling management and reduce its carbon footprint by processing 80% of its energy through solar panels. Speaking to Caterer Middle East about the importance of providing healthy snacking options in the region, Gyma Food Industries and Bayara FZE CEO Jean Marc Lourau said: “We have a problem of obesity, diabetes and junk food in this country. We want to promote healthy food which is why everything we develop in the future will be healthy and never full of oil, fat or sugar. It’s not our culture.”

The company also continues to expand this drive to source much of our products from farmers choosing sustainable methods of production. Lourau explained: “We know the farmers in each country. If you ask me where  I’m sourcing my cardamom I’ll say Guatemala and I’ll now the supplier in Guatemala. Everything comes from a farm that we know.”

Bayara has more than 50 ongoing projects at company level including innovative offerings in the category of spices (grinders and ready-to-cook range), an organic range of products in the dried fruits and nuts category, healthy mixes in the snacking range and dates from UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan.
