The Richemont Masterbaker Pastry & Baking Championship 2019 has now opened for registrations. With so few platforms for professional pastry chefs and bakers to showcase their true creativity, skills and artistic flair, the championships are a great way to raise their profile and strengthen the industry.
Chef Wayne Tapsfield from the Rhodes Group, who served as a judge in last year’s championship echoed this view by saying: “This competition is great for your profile and it’s great for the industry. Personally, I think it helps younger chefs in particular to gain a sense of achievement, it helps their confidence and their self-esteem. The competition really motivates the people who enter to feel like the true professionals they are.”
The competition is open for entry to all levels of professional bakers and pastry chefs in the Middle East. The championships will challenge your skills, creativity and technical ability across three rounds including an online test, live heats and final heats, which will be filmed.
Chef Abel Vieilleville from Address Boulevard, who served as a 2018 Judge, advises: “As judges, we’re not looking for people who go over the top – we just want people to display what they know best, so we can see what you’re able to do.”
Giving a contestant’s perspective, 2018 pastry finalist Keegan Perreira from Grosvenor House, Dubai, said: “Competitions like this really help us to know where we stand, in the industry, compared to the chefs in other hotels. I enjoyed seeing new ideas and how the other pastry chefs work.”
To register your entry to the competition, visit www.championship -richemont-masterbaker.com. You’ll receive an online test by end June 2019, which is designed to demonstrate that you know the foundations in either the pastry or baking categories. The 12 bakers and 12 pastry chefs with the highest scores will then go on to compete in the Live Heats, with the judges assessing your techniques, methodology and results.
The final four in each category will then go on to the Live Finals, where the judges will decide on The Richemont Masterbaker Pastry and Baking Champions of 2019. The winners will be announced at a prestigious Awards ceremony in October, in front of a gathering of 400 of the most influential professional chefs and food industry leaders.
Each Champion of 2019 will receive an all-expenses-paid course in Switzerland, an Advanced Course at the Richemont Masterbaker Center for Excellence in Baking & Pastry in Dubai, as well as the champion’ accolade itself.
Last year’s Baking Champion, Chef Jacob Ebba from DUKES Dubai summed up the experience: “Even if I had lost, I’d still be fine because I learned so much, which is the most important thing for me to take away from the competition. I did my best and put all the experience from my entire career into the day of the competition.”
Showcase your talent. Showcase your skills. Showcase yourself!
