Mody waits his way to the top at the Caterer Awards 2018
Dipen Mody, from the pool bar at Raffles Dubai, took home the 'Waiter of the Year' award at the 2018 Caterer Middle East Awards.
His nomination entry noted that Mody was the most mentioned colleague on TripAdvisor in terms of guest satisfaction feedback and social media in the past Raffles decade, generating over 90 excellent reviews in 2017.
Mody started his hospitality career in 2010 as a food and beverage intern at the Holiday Inn in Singapore. He then joined Taj group of hotels and the Oberoi Udaivilas in India before joining Raffles Dubai as an in-room dining waiter in April 2015. He was transferred to the pool bar team in 2016 and was promoted to pool bar supervisor following his outstanding performance in January 2018. Mody holds a Diploma in Hospitality and Tourism Management from Nanyang Institute of Management in Singapore and a certificate from WSET (wine & spirit education trust) in Dubai.
"I feel like I've won the Oscars or something," said an elated Mody after he collected his award.
Over the course of last year, Mody found himself in a challenging period where one of his colleagues was on annual leave and the other had to undergo an urgent surgery and took over all their shifts. He worked for one month straight without taking a day off and successfully maintained a high guest satisfaction score. His team also scored 98% in 2017, one of the highest score ever to be achieved on the department Colleague Engagement Survey (CES) which is an employee survey solution that measures employee engagement and strategic alignment within the organisation.
"When we enter the hospitality industry we need to treat our guests like family and we need to remember their choices especially with repeat guests," said Mody, on how to keep guests satisfaction up.
