Raven Rudolph from folly by Nick & Scott was named the Bar Manager of the Year at the Caterer Middle East Awards 2018.

The award was presented to him by 1765 Gemini head of bar division Shelly Speirs on May 9 during the gala ceremony.

He was previously shortlisted in the 2016 edition of the awards while in another role, and Rudolph joked after the awards that he was "lucky" to win this time.

Through his work, Rudolph displayed natural leadership, and works with his team to make drinks and serve guests himself. He has performed in several international competitions, and motivates his team to develop their skills.

Sharing some advice, Rudolph said to Caterer Middle East: "The only thing I would say is don’t expect something from someone else that you can’t do for them. Lead, but don’t just expect people to work for you."

Another plus for the judges was sustainability. Rudolph is an ardent supporter of the “stop sucking” campaign, which encourages consumers to ditch straws to save the environment.

The highly commended nominee among the remaining five finalists was Tadhg Ryan from D&A at Jumeirah Beach Hotel.

This year's awards were supported by: platinum sponsor Emaar Hospitality Group; category sponsors A.Ronai, A&T Group Interiors, Bragard, Precision Refrigeration and TSSC, Pulsar Foodstuff, 1765 Gemini; dessert sponsors EMF, Cacao Barry, Callebaut; photobooth sponsor Mintano by Sketches; social media partner Tint; water sponsor Acqua Panna and San Pellegrino; and beverage sponsors MMI, Campari, Fever Tree, and Skyy Vodka.
