Emirates Culinary Guide president Uwe Micheel has said he believes that Instagram is “a nightmare” for chefs, despite the prevalence of the app in the F&B industry.
Speaking ahead of his scheduled appearance at The Hotel Show Dubai where he is judging The Chef’s Table challenge, Micheel said: “Chefs, today, have to focus on taste as well as aesthetics for Instagram. But, to be honest, it is a nightmare because people have to put their food on social media before tasting it. Diners spend a lot of time clicking that perfect picture during which time the food is sitting there getting cold.”
However, Micheel has said that The Chef’s Table challenge will not be as focused on presentation as the customer may be, saying that the competition, which sees restaurant teams from a number of top hotel chains compete to create a lunch menu from a mystery box of ingredients, will require a combination of creativity, skill, and teamwork.
The Hotel Show Dubai takes place at Dubai World Trade Centre from September 16 to September 18.
