Massimo Bottura has told Caterer Middle East that it was W Dubai’s “passion and persistence” that persuaded him to choose the UAE as the location of his latest venture.
Torno Subito opened up at the hotel on February 10, and in his exclusive interview Bottura praised hotel general manager Anne Scott for her belief and support in creating the venue.
Bottura said that he has been made offers all over the world and that “usually I say no to everybody and that’s it” but the team at W Dubai “came back again, and again, and again, and in the end I said okay”.
With his original restaurant, Osteria Francescana in Italy, sitting at the top of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list for 2018, Bottura is in demand and will be a huge draw for the W hotel on The Palm in a city filled with other celebrity chefs.
Torno Subito is a departure from the intimate fine-dining of Osteria Francescana, instead offering a comfortable and playful restaurant where diners can relax and enjoy a bite by the beach.
Bottura is delighted with how it has turned out, saying: “The result is unbelievable. I’m very critical on myself, on my team – nothing is good enough for me, never. But I have to say when I walked in, it’s unbelievable.”
