They said it “wasn’t a goodbye” when the Lowe team announced its closure back in April, and sure enough, Dubai's award-winning independent restaurant is set to return with a new format from July 31.
Headed by Kate Christou and Jesse Blake, Lowe revealed its return as a weekend brunch and evening supper club concept via Instagram this week.
Speaking to Caterer Middle East, Christou said the new concept aimed to bring the best of Lowe to its customers. She said: “There is no denying the fact that the restaurant industry has been hit pretty badly, and being a small independent restaurant only open for a year we were faced with some tough decisions. We knew that the best way to get through this is to play to our strengths, and for us that means weekend day trade and evening events, so we are going to focus on that for now.”
Serving an all-day brunch on Fridays and Saturdays, customers will be able to choose from a selection of favourites from previous Lowe breakfast and lunch menus, while Christou says the bi-monthly supper club “will be a bit more experimental”. She explained: “We have an open platform, there’s no menu or rule book, it’s a chance for us to cook whatever we want so it’s really exciting.”
The launch of the new supper club is an opportunity to capitalise on customers looking for more bang for their buck due to coronavirus, said Christou.
“We feel that dining habits have changed; before the pandemic eating out was something that people did without really thinking. Now people are more conscious and are looking for an experience that is worth donning a mask and leaving the house for, which is why we decided to start the supper club.”
While Christou and Blake have been keeping busy during Lowe’s absence with a pottery studio set up at their home, their loyal followers will be happy to see them back in the kitchen.
