The Big Climb: Mohammad Al-Madani
What attracted you to the position?
Located in the heart of Deira, the Waterfront Market is known to be the ultimate destination for freshness, variety, and value. The market sells all that has been traded in the past — it almost feels like it is a place to reminisce and experience the deeply rooted heritage of old Dubai in a state of the art modern structure.
How have your past experiences lent themselves to your expertise in this role?
With 17 years of experience across several industries, I am sure that I can make a positive contribution to the Waterfront Market. My previous experience includes 10 years at the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs and two years at Union Cooperative Society as a branch manager. Before joining the Waterfront Market, I was the retail service manager at ADNOC, spearheading continuous improvement across all departments and activities.
What are you most looking forward to as part of this new role?
I am looking forward to witnessing the development and growth of the Waterfront Market as the ultimate destination for fresh food. Another thing I’m looking forward to is to watch myself as an individual grow in gaining experience in all aspects of the market and watch it grow as a destination and develop it as another must visit centre in the UAE for visitors to come explore. The Waterfront Market has already set record footfall in the past year and is slowly establishing itself as the go-to place for families and food lovers. I will make sure this upward trend continues under my tenure.
How do you intend to increase the popularity of The Waterfront Market?
Working closely with the marketing team, we have set a strategy for the future rich in events, initiatives and campaigns for everyone. We are a destination that attracts people from different backgrounds and cultures, all having in common their love for food, fun, and variety. Nevertheless, value remains at the core of our strategy and remains a tremendous driver, influencing our footfall positively day after day.
Can you share your thoughts on sustainability issues? Is there anything you and the Waterfront Market will be doing to improve sustainability?
We take sustainability very seriously.
One of the awareness campaigns running currently at the Waterfront Market is the “Save Sheri and Safi Fish” campaign — part of the Ministry of Climate Change efforts to safeguard fish stocks in the UAE waters especially during their breeding season in the months of March and April.
What is your favorite thing about the brand?
The Waterfront Market brand is unique. The experience found here is also particular. The variety of the items found in the market, the diversity of cultures that mix and match across the market halls, the scents, aromas, and hustle and bustle of the place take you back in time while keeping you anchored in the present. The Waterfront Market Brand is an embodiment of what a food market should be.
