The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) in the UAE has completed its second Junior Chef initiative which stresses the importance of eating healthy food.
The program saw a number of children aged nine to 11 brought together to participate in activites including a series of interactive workshops on healthy food and snacks under the supervision of a professional chef and a nutritionist; education field trips to Lulu Hypermarket and other establishments; lectures on healthy shopping; and discussion on proper label reading with emphasis on a product’s nutrition facts.
It comes as the ministry is trying to reduce the number of obese children in the country to 12% by 2021.
MOHAP director of education and health promotion department Dr. Fadila Sharif said: “The Junior Chef program is part of the ministry’s efforts to promote healthy habits and good practices among children in the country. This is in line with our efforts to promote healthy lifestyles in local communities.”
